Dr Ruairidh McLennan Battleday BMBCh (Oxon) PhD
Dr Ruairidh Battleday is a cognitive scientist, AI researcher and founder working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, neuroscience and mathematics.
He completed his PhD in Computer Science at Princeton University under the supervision of Tom Griffiths and continued his research with Sam Gershman on computational models of scientific reasoning.
He works on generalisation: how a learning system uses past experience to make inferences in new situations. In particular he studies relational generalisation, how humans and machines get past surface similarity to recognise shared structure.
The aim is to understand human cognition better and to make machine learning systems more flexible, efficient and robust.
He founded Thinking About Thinking and runs it. It brings together researchers and practitioners across fields through neuroMONSTER, the AE Global Summit and the Thinking About Thinking Fellowship.
